HYROX Event Safety Update
The health and safety of our athletes, staff and volunteers is always at the forefront of our decision making at HYROX. Based on local, CDC and World Health Organization guidelines, in order to participate in a HYROX event this Season 20/21 we will require a negative COVID-19 test that must be taken no more than 72 hours prior to the event date. As a result we will not be requiring athletes to wear masks while participating in the event. These requirements, as well as the ones below, are subject to change due to changing local and venue regulations.
HOW HYROX IS HERE FOR YOU
With the global pandemic of COVID-19 affecting everyday life, HYROX is taking every step possible to bring fitness to everyone in the safest possible ways. This is all through government guidelines from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO). We are firm believers that regular activity and fitness are key elements to a healthy lifestyle helping to enhance both physical and mental health.
The following are the three main areas where HYROX is focusing on helping to bring fitness back into your life:
Virtual Fitness Programs
Throughout the period where gatherings are banned and people are instructed to stay at home, we are launching regular virtual fitness competitions and workout routines to support home-based workouts. All of these are free! Our virtual fitness programs include our HYROX Home Series competition, live Instagram workouts and Workouts of the Week. Our goal is to safely keep you healthy and fit so when we can return to our ‘new norm’ that you’re ready to succeed.
Gym Based Competitions
For the overall health of a community, it is key that people remain active. HYROX has launched the #NeverStopCompeting campaign to support all of you in staying active while isolating and practicing social distancing. We have been so proud of all of you for competing in our Home Series and encouraging each other to be your best selves during this time. After a great first round of our HYROX Home Series, the 3 top men and 3 top women competed for the title live over streaming services. The core of HYROX is competition, and we are able to bring that to all of you in your own homes.
Events
Refunds for Cancellations or Postponement
With the uncertainty of when events will be allowed back in the different regions we operate in, HYROX wants to offer a safety net for anyone who signs up. If for any reason we do not host a Season 20/21 event, all competitors who have signed up for that event will automatically receive a no questions asked refund of all registration fees PLUS 50% off a signup for any future North American event in Season 20/21 (excluding World Championship). We are doing this because we want you to know that HYROX is on your side and we are doing everything possible to ensure we can continue to welcome you to our events!
Advancement in Sanitation
We have a industry leading antimicrobial surface treatment, which is a lab tested for all surfaces that is effective for up to three years from date of application. The product controls and minimizes the spread of bacteria and viruses between competitors. Along with this treatment, staff will regularly wipe down common surfaces with alcohol or bleach based cleaning wipes, and there will be a minimum of 24 hand sanitizing stations available in our venues. We want to make sure that athletes feel safe and comfortable while competing in all HYROX events.
Social Distancing
We have made multiple contingency plans to ensure your safety while competing and to also implement social distancing at our events. As states, cities and countries begin to open up, we will know which plan to implement for each event that you participate in that abides with the rules set in place for that specific event city. Cities might differ in their rules and regulations once they begin to open, and we might have to enhance protocols, but we have come up with various plans as needed. Social distancing will be implemented at all times as we have designed a system within each workout station that allows athletes to compete while maintaining the recommended 1.8m (6’) from one another. Our run course has also been modified to have wider lanes and start times will be distributed to ensure that 1.8m (6’) separation throughout the entire competition.
Face Masks & Gloves
Attendees, volunteers and staff will be strongly encouraged to wear face masks and gloves within a venue. Doing so helps prevent the spread of any airborne particles.
HYROX Event Safety Plans
HYROX has designed a social distancing system within each workout station to allow athletes to compete while still maintaining the recommended distances from one another.
- Registration
At registration, there will be stickers on the floor that have been placed 1.8m (6’) apart from each other to help direct athletes where to stand while waiting in line. When an athlete reaches the counter, they will encounter staff across a 1.8m (6’) table to register for the event.
- Run Course
The run course has been modified in order to comfortably allow three 2m (6’) wide lanes. Similar to the standards used in driving, the outermost lane is a dedicated ‘slow’ lane for competitors maintaining a sub-average pace; the middle ‘passing’ lane is designated for overtaking other competitors; the innermost lane is the ‘fast’ lane is for competitors with an above-average running pace. Overall capacity & density is managed by the careful scheduling of the start waves.
- SkiErg
At the SkiErg workout station, each competitor completes a prescribed distance at the piece of equipment without leaving the boundaries of the machine’s base. An aisle, measuring 2.5m (8’) wide, has been created to allow distancing while competitors enter/exit the overall area.
- Sled Push
At the Sled Push station, each competitor will be given 2 lanes, 2m (6’6”) wide, to complete the workout while maintaining social distance. Under existing HYROX rules, only one competitor, unless you are a doubles team, is allowed per lane.
- Sled Pull
At the Sled Pull station, each competitor will be given 2 lanes, 2m (6’6”) wide, to complete the workout while maintaining social distance. Under existing HYROX rules, only one competitor, unless you are a doubles team, is allowed per lane.
- Burpee Broad Jump
At this station, three athletes will compete side by side, while maintaining a distance of 1.8m (6’) from each other.
- Rowing
Similar to the SkiErg station, the rowing machines are spaced to maintain 1.8m (6’) from the other. This allows for athletes to effectively complete this workout while properly social distancing.
- Kettle Bells Farmers Carry
At the Farmer’s Carry, competitors walk with two kettle bells in lanes that have been adjusted to allow for social distancing between competitors. Similar to the Run Course, there are passing lanes added that ensure a 1.8m (6’) distance between each competitor.
- Sandbag Lunges
At the lunges workout station, competitors have a sandbag over their shoulder while lunging up and down lanes that have been slightly expanded in order to accommodate two competitors lunging down the lanes side by side, while still maintaining a minimum of 1.8m (6’) separation.
- Wall Balls
The Wall Ball stations are spaced out to allow a 1.8m x 1.8m (6’ x 6’) space per competitor and an additional 1.8m x 1.8m (6’ x 6’) space for their assigned judge. Another 1.8m x 1.8m (6’ x 6’) space has been allocated to ensure that judges and athletes maintain the appropriate social distance because unlike other workout stations, at the Wall Ball station, a judge is assigned to each competitor to track their number of repetitions.
At HYROX, we look forward to our amazing events which we love, but we love our HYROX Family more. We are eager to get back together and witness all of you be great, but we want to make sure that we have done everything we can to make sure that is safely possible.
